Has anyone ever powdercoated a chrome wheel with clear? How does it look?

I believe Bonspeed and other companies offer clear powercoat on their wheels.

The question is why ? There is no point to clear powdercoat a chrome wheel. A billet wheel is different, but you do loose some of the shine when you do this. But there is hardly any maintence afterwards.

There is a point to clearing a chrome wheel. To add a water proof layer of protection to the chrome. Yes it is a growing thing in the wheel business.

And Derek, it does dull the finish a little bit. But not as much as clear over a billet wheel.

Can't speak for chrome, but I can speak for alum.  When I got my dually, the rims were powdercoated black.  Wasn't going in that direction for the build, so I had them stripped, polished back out, then I had them clear powdercoated.  This truck has to sit outside and I'm not a big fan of polishing, so that's why I clear coated them.  It dulled the shine a little, but not enough that you can tell. I have some pics on my page after they got cleared.  I can't tell how easy it is to wash them, hit them with water, wait till they are almost dry and go over them with a micro fiber cloth to get the water spots off..

Hmmm...Never heard of it, but I get my wheels and such powder coated all of the time and that is an awesome idea.  "2xtreme"  Your wheels look great like that!  Can't believe I've never heard or thought about doing that before.   I know some aluminum wheels come with a factory clear over them and I've seen alot that were peeling too.  Has anyone had any issues with the clear coming off after doing this since they are polished and not sandblasted to help the powder to stick?
