after market fuel pump

Is there a way to hook up an after market fuel pump to turn on and off like the factory one(so that it shuts on and off with fuel pressure)? I just have it wired to the ignition now so it runs when the key is on. I didn't know if that was hard on the pump or not?

This is on a 89 S-10 4cyl  by the way.

I ran mine off of the factory fuel pump wires. On my 93 dime pretty much the same truck. Worked great for over two years daily driven.
