Just curious for all you that have put a toy clip in the front of your truck, how did you go about putting motor mounts in it?  guess im just curious how you made sure the motor was where it was supposed to be, not too far forward or back? just curious because i am about to install my 302 in there and want to make sure ill have enough room for the rad up front?

if anyone has pics of the motor mounts they made to adapt their motor to a toy clip id love to see em!!

Wether clipped or not you gotta test fit the engine with the cab and all.  I put a 350 in my yota and bought transdapt conversion mounts.  But they didn't leave much clearance for the exhaust so I cut them and welded them in place to fit the block huggers.  I moved the frame mounts forward and then welded the conversion mounts to it backwards so the long part was forward and then I cut that part off.  You can how they used to be.  I think they make them for Ford small blocks also.  I put the engine as close to the firewall as possible to make room for the radiator and a/c parts.

you have to put the motor in and all the stuff on it. add the raditator, and check for clearance and fit all around.   there is no right way or wrong way.   personally the v8 is too heavy.  for around the same price you can get an LC Engineering motor and you will be alot happier with the power to weight ratio, and a 4 cyl that is more powerful then a V8 is always cool.   the V8 swap is neet, but not really worth it to me.

I priced out doing a turbo 22re build running low compression, motec ecu and you can't beat the price per HP of a v8.  Yeah the weight is a bit much, but have you weighed a 22re?  It's a lot heavier than you think.  And you'll never touch the torque of a v8.  I'd love to build a turbo 22re but the reliability is what turned me away.  That and I payed $100 for my smallblock out of an 84 c10, $26 for edelbrok performer intake on ebay, $50 craigslist edelbrock 1406 carb, Sanderson headers leftover from another project, $80 for a flame thrower distributor, $17 for Oreillys 8mm plug wires, $40 Napa water pump, etc.  I road race and I'm going to put my yota on my scales when it's all together to see the weight distribution.  I've lost a lot in the front and prolly gained a bit in the rear.  The 240 I road race is 52/48% front/back and I'm curious what the yota is.  I'll post up when I weight it.  prolly another month or 2.
