Anybody heard of them? I have just acquired a 21" death row sub that seems to be pretty good and its enormous. anybody have some insight into this brand and if they are worth messing with?

last night I had a guy offer to trade me his dd9518 for my 21. I know dd has good stuff. but the allure of such a big ass sub makes me wonder what to do. on this sub you can see the coil in between the motor and basket where the spacers are and the coil is a little discolored like it has been hot. should I worry? never had a sub where I could really see the coil before. dont remember if it was visible on my btl or not and I pounded the hell out of it and it held up great. this one is rated 1000rms and 2000max so it seems a little low for such a big sub but it isn't their top of the line sub either so thats probably why. you get what you pay for.

DD and IA both make some killer subs. the 21 inch death row sub is a beast. 1000 watts rms on a 21 inch sub is an incredible amount. it will move massive amounts of air. in my opinion, i would keep it. but the DD is a very reliable sub, and can easily take 2k daily. the discoloration of the coils just mean it got a little hot and may be a little broken in, nothing to worry about. ever held a torch to a piece of copper tubing? turns colors pretty quick, but doesnt burn a hole in the copper.

im leaning towards the ia more now. I do see what you are saying jack. the thing is that the higher power handling of the dd seems to be a better sub to me. I like my stuff obnoxious loud and whichever I stay with will be ran with at least 1500 watts. the guy I got the sub from wired it to .75 ohms on a nine.1 amp and he said it got hot on him so he rewired it to 3 ohms. these subs are only available in 4hom models from what I can find but this sub is 1.5ohm per coil from what my dvom shows. think this happened when he reconed it? it doesn't have alot of time on it since the recone. Ive never reconed a sub so I don't know what you can do with them.
