Whats the best place for a water trap? Between the compressor and tank or tank and valves? I did some google searching and it seems after the tank would be more affective but i see most set ups have them after the compressor. I have 2 5 gal 4 port tanks and 2 480s. I figure either way ill need two traps, one for each comp or one for front valves and rear coming from the tank depending on what works best. It seems it makes more sense to have it after the tank to keep the containaments out of the valves seeings how 12" from the compressor the air would still be hot.

I would say you want a couple water traps, and for that matter a cooler after the compressors before the water trap.  I used a tansmission cooler rated at 250psi with a fan after the compressors and before the water trap.  Then I used water traps on the front and rear outputs from the tank as well.

Between the compressor and tank keeps the moisture from rusting out the tank and valves

the compressed air wont release all its moisture until it cools. the best would be if you could cool it right out of the compressor as gravity5 said.. you could also run your lines past your Ac evaporator
