i have an issue with my 98 s10 ss 4.3L vortec 2wd automatic.... it seems like an ignition switch but that isnt the problem(put a new one in and nothing changed). i found a set of relays under the dash that isnt in the manual and they all checked fine... all fuses as well... i took the relays under the dash out one by one and put them all back in and the truck started and everything worked fine. put the lower dash panels back on, closed the hood, and went to start it and nothing! it went back to acting the way it was. i took it all back apart and repeated the same steps, and still nothing... my battery is fully charged at 12.6v and all fuses and relays are still fine. all the wires under the dash look ok as well. NO obdII codes are being thrown and the security light is NOT on. the truck WAS running great, i drove it down the street, it sat for 2 hours, came out to leave and this is where it sits... i cant figure it out, and im as lost as they get... PLEASE HELP ME!!! text, call, e mail, or respond if u have any questions or ideas... 209-352-3797 HollywoodFMX@yahoo.com -Aaron

It sounds like you have a short somewhere. Pull the PCM/ECM fuse, and let sit for 10 minutes. Put back in and see if it starts. If not, then check and make sure you are getting power to the coil packs. Assuming it is cranking over.

i know the coils are fine cuz i was able to jump the starter relay and start the engine until it died from the fuel being shut off cuz of security system... as far as the ecm fuse, ill give that a try but im also pretty sure its a short somewhere... and HA HA brian, this is the first time i came to you for help and you were stumpped! lol besides, that square body dodge dakota guy is gonna help me clean this beezy up and get er real low! he just smacked some dubs on his yota and 22's on the dakota.

Does the starter turn the motor over or does it not do anything? The relays under the dash are just accessories, the important relays are under the hood.

the starter will not turn over but i have jumped it so i know its good. i know theirs fuses on the side of the dash that are mostly accessories, but the four under the dash seem more important, cuz one of them i know is the starter relay... but there is also another starter relay under the hood as well. under the hood is four prong and under the dash is five prong...

FIXED IT!!! turns out it was a wire that someone else spliced into the wire harness and grounded behind the distributor... that wire just wasnt getting a good enough ground, so i ripped it apart and redid it and all is well!! I GOT MY BAGGIN FIRE HAZARD BACK!!!
