I was thinking of making my truck a unibody. Was wondering if anyone had done one or had one and though it was worth the trouble to be different? Heres my truck now as it sits.

i havent heard of a unibody with good long term results. im sure they are out there but everyone ive seen this far had been cracked down the seam.
Sick truck by the way

hit up "FAT NICK (FAT)" on here, he has uni-bodied his fullsize and ( i believe) helped with "LowToy91 (Helicopter)" yota. the only problem ive ever heard on doing this is the lenth vs. bracing = flexibility/stress cracks after its done. looks incredible if done right tho

I have seen one that cracked down the center because of ALL the stresses. If I ws you I would leave it like it is - it looks sick already....Invest your cash somewere on the truck just not there.

Just thick if you ever need to lift the bed to do anything, it would be hell lifting up the hole thing.

BTW The new Truckin cover has a unibodyed truck.

I wouldn't worry about unibody personally. Use that money to Z the front of your truck.

I would buy wheels.

But if you want to unibody it, you need to run structural supports as far forward as you can... then the same length backwards. Make sure you mount the bed to the frame with rubber isolators (just like the cab is). That way the cab won't be on bushings and the bed on metal. If you brace it well and mount everything to the frame with rubber isolators/ bushings it shouldn't crack out. Key word... shouldn't.

I give you props for wanting something different but the unibody thing i would pass on. Making a unibody truck out of a non unibody will be a huge headache with constant problems from flex just my 2 cents worth. If you want to do body work maybe shave door handles and tailgate handle and like 2LOW4U said maybe some front frame work if possible. Maybe a two tone paint job and rims. I think your truck looks great with out the unibody. Your truck already being a Dodge and bagged is a huge step as not many Doges are done so keep up the good work.

I think it wouldnt crack out if you cut the front of the bed out. Overlaped the bed sides onto the cab corners and bend them into the back door jams. Spot weld the bed sides inside the door jam and stagered spot welds through the bed side onto the cab corners. Weld the bed floor to the back of the cab making the back cab wall your front bed wall also. Only thing is you would have to shorten your frame and wheel base a few inchs. Could be wrong but would think that would work.

I saw the cover of Truckin and fell in love, that's why I was tossing that idea around. My Lincoln welder just showed up today, and I was looking for more to do. I have already installed he door pops, and Now that the welder is here, I can make the motor mounts to drop the engine 2 inches so I can Z the frame. I just wanted to be a little different. I had 22's on my truck but liked the look of the powder coated wheels better. Maybe I will powder coat some 22's or 24's. Only thing I need to clear a 33" tire after the Z is Tub the firewall. The rear will clear with out problems. Thank you everyone for your input about the unibody, Since I drive it ALL the time, maybe I will pass. There are only 3 bagged fullsize trucks where I live, so I guess being the Dodge will have to be the difference. Thanks again.
