You really dont want to hook the Ipod Direct to the amp. Ipods and other portable players have vary low wattage and high resistance outputs to save on battery life. You can clip the signal vary easily and the extra gain you need from the amp just amplifies and compounds the clipping issues. You may not be able to tell the output is clipped (depending on how discerning of an ear you have) but your speakers will work harder and suffer for it. Run a line driver with a remote gain, you will be impressed with the difference

The car I did was a 65 mustang that the owner didnt want to cut up. The Ipod went striaght into a 4 channel alpine amp with no problems but i can see how you could have a problem with the low voltage on the ipods output. If I was you and dont care about a really loud system your best bet would be to get a radio with a aux imput and hide it uner the seat and run speakers off the headunit

i has a question.............. i just ordered the little box...........

and am thinking about using this to connect the ipod to the box.

will this cord charge the ipod or is it not going to?

the add read this: "Hi-Fi Stereo Amplifier for Car , Motorcycle, Boat The Amplifier can be also plug in with ipod or other MP3!It has USB socket for power supply to ipod / MP3"

it appears the box you have above will charge anything, includng you ipod, with its usb out. however, you will have two plugs in your ipod, one for headphone jack, and the other for charging via the bottom plug. If you want it to have only one visible plug on it, i would get the offical ipod cable that just plugs in one spot on ipod, and the other side will have usb and three rcas, obviously u wouldnt use the yellow video. you can get it at ur local best buy or apple store for about 50$. butyour bst solution is to use some form of sound processor, like the many audio control makes.
