license plate lost in the mail, what should i do?

I mailed Gavin my license plate, registration, and insurance card this week, he called me today and said the envelope wasn't even sealed, and the license plate (personalized) and insurance card were missing, the only thing in the unsealed envelope was the registration. He suggested i call a 24/7 USPS customer service line, i did, told them what was going on, the lady put me on hold 4 times trying to transfer me to the mail fraud division, finally transferred me to her supervisor who transferred me to mail fraud to get a message saying the mail fraud office is only open mon thru friday 8:30 to 4:30, call back during business hours. What should i do? I'm just wondering if this has happened to anyone else, i know i can't do anything about it until Monday, but i'm kinda freaking out.

If the plate has beeen stolen then you have to apply for a new one or risk having the old plate used and you in deep trouble. Maybe notify insurance that your mail was looked thru in case someone tries to file a claim under your policy. Best to look for a new plate. Good luck man.

it's not really that big a deal, i already have a plate exactly like the one that was lost, i just need a new registration sticker (the year sticker). I got a new "JUMBO" tag for my s10 in 07, but never put it on the truck, then sold it, then i tried to transfer it to the burb, and they said i had to reapply because it'd been more than a year since the tag was used. So it was the new one that was lost, but i still have the old one (exactly the same style, but the reg year is 07).

(in NC) file for a lost or stolen tag they will reissue the tag and sticker and call your insurance company and they can fax or email you a new insurance card. you are wasting your time with USPS, they SUCK!

nope, i'm fucked. Spent about an hour and a half on the phone with DMV, police, USPS. turns out, unless it's found in the bottom of a mailbag somewhere and returned to me, i can't reapply for my "JUMBO" tag (that i've had since 1995) untill 2016. I had to report it as stolen to the DMV and police. Freaking yay. I also have to go back to the DMV, get a regular tag, and send that one to Gavin in the meantime so he can work out the kinks on my burb all legal like. If he gets it running before May 2011, that is :D
