I am currently in the middle of swapping toyota spindles on to my mazda. I noticed after taking some measurements that the toyota's steering arm on the spindles is a half inch longer than the mazda's spindle. So my question is, is it safe to shorten the arm and weld it back together? Also if i do this what is the proper proceedure? Should i pre heat the metal before welding? Should i reheat the arm with a torch after welding and allow it to cool again? Thanks in advance for any help.
