i know people say not to use the ptc unless there dot. but what about union fittings or tee's or elbo's. are those ok to get from a hardware store?

Yeah, why would the DOT spend all that time pressure testing and aproving stupid little fittings when you can just run to Home Depot and get them

Seriously.....

If you're in a pinch, and have a blow out, and cannot get the proper fittings right away, then rocking some hardware store fittings are ok for a quick fix...but that's it. They absolutely are not the same as DOT fittings, either in materials, production, or pressure ratings. The shit you buy at a hardware store is produces for low pressure static use, not at all for the vibrations and general abuse that they will see on your truck.

One fitting failure can put lives and property in jeopardy, why risk it for a couple dollars worth of fittings.

The brass may work for a while but ive had some brass tees fail on me and get pinholes in them back in the day. I only use brand name stuff now. I would never use any compression or pushloks from there.

theyre not all the same. if they were then they'd all be the same price. the cheaper ones are cheap simply because they are usually a less than ideal mix of metals and will corrode faster than say the same type of fitting from another brand with a better mix. The DOT fittings are not always the highest rated when dealing with PSI but they have been pressure tested where as the others are stamped and just sent on their way.

they are all the same people, even the parker store sells the same fittings as ace lowes and home depot, the only difference in the others is they stamped dot on them other than that its all the same fittings, not going to say some wont fail cause they do, even the dot ones fail, but there the same things, just make sure when using brass dont over tighten them thats it and use all the hardware like sleeves and inserts so it will be a proper install
