So I'm swapping my pickup to a 4runner I was told tht vehicle registration is based off the frame. So I wanna know if anyone knows if there's a document stating tht somewhere just incase I get pulled over

you need to take paper work from both trucks in to dmv and have em re-vin the cab

Well body swaps are legal.revining would be CHP. DMV has a paper called statement of facts with it on there. But Ive been told reg. Is based off frame

i would just run it off the body how often do you get pulled over and a lazy ass cop crawls under to check the frame numbers?

The body I have is salvaged title an it's a v6 model but In my pickup is a 4cyl and I don't wanna go through getting it ref'd for a swap?

just use the title from the body.
first of all this is an old yota...... we arent talking about brand new bentleys... i doubt a cop would have any reason to run the vin on it anyways.

A XL club member (Lil Craig) with a 86 Toyota 4Runner bodydropped, body swap was removed from his vehicle at gunpoint in San Diego, when a city cop behind him at a light ran his plate and it came back to a 93 Toyota truck. He called for back-up, and when the other cops showed up they hog tied Lil Craig and threw him in the back of a squad car. The vehicle was 100% legit. But you're guilty until proven innocent. Lil Craig's dad was the Chief of Police in Calabasas Ca. at the time, and he showed up to the San Diego police station with the titles for both vehicles. You can imagine how the conversation probably went.
So, they were told to register the body, and keep the titles for both vehicles together. Even though it has truck guts, its a 4Runner now. The vehicle will usually only be sent to the ref if its deemed dangerous, or illegal. So to not draw attention to yourself, just keep your game tight.;-)

I thought it was the cab I have a swapped frame on my blazer its a 4x4 cab with a 2x4 frame. What if you build your own frame, half of my frame is new. I guess them both being blazers i should be fine.

Well the ca vehicle code Section 671 says this in part b
Whenever a vehicle is constructed of component parts identified with one or more different vehicle identification numbers, the vehicle identification number stamped or affixed by the manufacturer or authorized governmental entity on the frame or unitized frame and body, as applicable, and as defined in Section 670.5, shall determine the identity of the vehicle for registration purposes
