I have an '82 C10 Silverado LWB I've named "Locomotion". Two reasons for the name, I am also a train nut and the truck is a diesel, and staying that way.
A little history on the truck. It was a shop truck at my F-I-L tool shop until I got it back in 2006 for, let's just say, a VERY good price, lol. Anyhow, I drove it for about a year after replacing the starter and water pump, and was happy to be getting well over 30 MPG combined city/highway, which is one thing the 6.2 was built for anyway. But, one day while driving to our new house, it started to spit and sputter and stall, so I parked it in our barn in 2007.
Fast forward to 2010-2011. After trying to decide if I should rebuild the 6.2, swap to a Duramax, swap to a 6.5, or even put in a Cummins, in May of this year, one of, if not THE 6.5 guru at GEP/AM General did the 6.5 non-turbo swap for me since I didn't have the time or full diesel know-how to do the work. He had it done in no time, and had it running strong from a fuel can.
Which brings us to 09/2011. I've been working on the truck when I can to get an air-in-fuel issue figured out so I could drive it, and as of 09/24/11 have it narrowed down to the sending unit, I hope lol.
My basic plans for the truck
include:Engine swap - DoneCustom built full frame, or just Porterbuilt Dropmember and KP parts for the chassis.Big brake kit, if not a hassle with a non-vacuum brake systemShave and smooth every inch of sheet metal on the body, suicide doors, cowl hood24's or 24/26" wheel comboStill undecided on paint and interior colors.Interior will be leather and painted steel/fiberglass with custom console for 3 10's.
My detailed list is 2 pages long, front and back, so these are the Cliff notes lol.
I'll post updates when I can. Until then, here are pic's.
