I have a 1986 B2000 that's been smoking badly at startup lately. I did a compression test and that came out fine, so I figured it's probably the valve seals.
To replace the seals, I started by loosening the 10 bolts that hold down the rocker arm assembly. I then discovered that there's an 11th bolt behind the cam sprocket! I wouldn't mind pulling the whole timing belt so I could remove that sprocket and pull the bolt, but I can't get the darn crankshaft pulley's bolt to break free.
In another thread on this forum, I saw someone do this:
http://i.imgur.com/fN2aSvV.jpg where he apparently slipped the timing belt off the upper sprocket so he could remove it and pull the rocker arms. Would it work if I slipped the belt off, remove the sprocket, removed that 11th bolt, pulled the rocker arms, then re-installed the sprocket & timing belt so I can hand-turn the engine while I replace valve seals?
Any other hints or tricks are appreciated, I'd like to avoid using a breaker bar + the starter to break free the crankshaft pulley but as a last resort I could do it.
