I'm working on removing the rocker arm assembly on my 86 B2000, which means taking off the cam pulley to get at the 11th bolt holding in the rocker arms. What tool do you guys use to hold the pulley still while trying to break loose the bolt? I tried with a screwdriver but just bent the screwdriver, and I ordered http://www.amazon.com/Performance-Tool-W89208-Pulley-Holder/dp/B002KSEJ6Q but it didn't fit. I don't really want to fabricate my own tool because I don't have a welder, drill press, etc.

I used a really large channel locks pair of pliers.

Didn't I read about someone stuffing in some rope in through a spark plug hole so that the engine wouldn't rotate? Don't do that blindly, read up to see if that's "real".

Is the head still on the block? I think I placed a long ratchet extension or maybe a cold chisel through one of the holes and just found something to brace it against, but having the head on the block made it a lot easier. Torquing it to spec when I put it back together was the trickier task.

I stick a socket through one of the holes in the gear to hold it.

I ended up grinding down one of the tools I bought and it worked.

Usually I'd remove it while it's still have timing belt on it
