I don't believe so.cap and rotor...Could the faulty vacuum line from the valve cover be playing a part in all this? Is it necessary other than smog issues? I appreciate all the help. Haven't dealt with project car issues in many years.

By electronic ignition I was meaning "no contact points".

Yes, any cracked vacuum lines or uncapped vacuum ports can suck in air and make a leaner mixture, and more noticeable at idle than at higher rpms.

Definitely not EI, but I did find an affordable kit to convert. Looks like a good idea, and will go with that. Did I mention ALL plugs are badly fouled? No doubt that is a big part of my problem. For now, will clean those and regap before making any other changes. Will keep you all posted. :)
