Anyway to get this head gasket on straight? I keep having trouble putting the head back on without moving the new head gasket. Any help wold greatly be appreciated. Thanks

I used two wooden dowels temporarily to align the cylinder head and head gasket, see my engine rebuild thread: http://www.mazdabscene.com/wiki/65
Maybe my photo will show here

Guess it didn't upload here, I can't figure this software out. See http://static.mazdabscene.com/photos/2015/54/18128/l.jpg" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">http://static.mazdabscene.com/photos/2015/54/18128/l.jpg

Great info! Thanks... but that dowel that keeps the head gasket in place at the corners of the engine block isn't present on my block. I guess it's recessed inside. Is there anyway to get it back out?

I really can't imagine the head not being held in place by the 10 cylinder head bolts. Maybe a machine shop can pull those out if actually pressed inwards, I might guess that they'd try to screw in a tap that fits them. I think my engine only had one of those when I put it together 5 years ago. If interested, I have a listing of part number as Mazda #022110108.+

I guess I just have trouble lining up the head gasket perfectly when placing the cylinder head on the block.

"I guess I just have trouble lining up the head gasket perfectly when placing the cylinder head on the block"

Why I used the two wooden dowels

Check the head. They may have recessed into it. You can use a bolt to wiggle them out.
