87 head advice

Pulled head after over heat. Pretty sure water pump went out. Not sure how to check that. Either way, head is cracked between the valves on number 3 cylinder. Where would be the best place to get a complete head. Don't really wanna bare head and have to put the valves an whatnot in it. Or should I try to find a whole motor from a junk yard? Thanks in advance!

Folks on MazdaTrucking.com have used Clearwater Cylinder Head and been happy http://www.cylinder-heads.com/ Remember that there is a difference between a 1987 B2000 head and a 1987 B2200 head. Use a Mazda or FelPro head gasket.

"Pretty sure water pump went out. Not sure how to check that." You'd have to pull the timing belt (already off if you have the cylinder head off, see if the water pump is leaking. If not, you can pull off and check the impeller fins, that's about all there is to the WP.
