I have a 1989 B2600i 5spd manual with 112K miles. One day while getting on the frwy I went to shift into 5th gear and there was no detente or position for the shifter to go into 5th..... no grinding, binding up, or slop in the shift linkage, just no position for 5th gear. coincidentally, reverse became very spotty and would pop out when engaging the clutch or would stick in reverse and be hard to get back into neutral. From what I could find through some research, it is most likely a failure in the shift linkage knuckle the operates the 5th and reverse gear. I have another trans from an 87 but not sure if it is a direct swap because of the different engines. I'm wondering if anyone has experienced this issue and if that part of the trans is accessible without completely tearing down the gearbox?
