Hi,

I have a 1991 Mazda b2600i 4x4. A spark plug became fused in the head. So I pulled the head and had it machined.

I used the following video tutorial on how to do this. Of course he left out the part that has me stumped!

All has gone well up until now … except I cannot get the timing chain sprocket back on the cam shaft. I remember it was tight getting it off. But I cannot get it back on the cam shaft. I don’t think the chain cam off the bottom sprocket … I kept it tight the whole time. I can turn the crank with a wrench and the timing chain moves.

If anyone has any ideas on how to do this I would be very happy!

Thanks!

As I recall, there s a chain tensioner that is spring loaded. It needs to be clamped in a vise and compressed to push the plunger back in. and then a 1.5 or 2mm rod (like an allen key) put into the housing to hold the plunger back.

Thank you! That was what I needed to understand. I got it to work.
