hi, so i've read about similar issues but here is mine.
it doesn't like to shift out of first unless i throttle it and then it will go to second and right to third and stay there (not go to 4th). sometimes when i come to a stop will not downshift until i get going, then will slam into gear. i, however did change the fluid prior to this happening and found a small broken plastic ring sitting in the bottom of the pan. not sure where it came from but these issues stated after the service.
i tried going to the yard to find a trans but a auto is a pain to find. closest i got was a 91 2200 but that trans was a little different so i left it.
anyone what what swaps into a 91 2.6 2wd?
finding a 2.6 in the yard is almost impossible and an auto is more rare than a unicorn. even the recyclers told me good luck haha.

also, the trans cross member is welded in. do you need to pull the motor and trans together? i don't see how you would be able to get the trans out otherwise.

thanks

If you have over 200,000 miles on the unit you might be best off taking the truck to a professional rebuilder and let them pull it, rebuild it, and reinstall it for you. That gets you a warantee. You don't know what you are going to be buying out of a parts yard and by the time you find out you might be in for a third unit.

Thank you for the reply.ive thought about that but I've heard so many horror stories about rebuilt units here. My uncle also just had his rebuilt on his 2200 and has nothing but problems and cost him almost 2k. Of course they're trying to take care of it but still a big enough hassle that I don't really mind taking the gamble on a $100 pick and pull trans.

Also, is there any trans that crosses over with this one or is it 2600i specific?

That is a lot of information that would help with interchanging. Would the use of this transmission allow the use of the motors these vehicles came stock with. 2600i motors already have fuel injection so I wonder how hard one of these engine swaps would be a drop in fit?

I wouldn't know. I copied from wikipedia.

So I looked at the tag last night and it looks like it's a Jatco Model x7461. So your saying the trans from those models would work with the G6 motor/ECU?

I have never owned an automatic. I just did a little research for you.

If you go to a genuine parts yard (probably not a you pull it yard) they would have a list of what actually will interchange vehicle by vehicle. I think it would be along the lines of what sincitylocal has already indicated. If you take your transmission with you to a parts yard you can match up the pulled unit with yours to see if it looks the same. Maybe it would be better to swap everything over to a manual transmission which you could get the pedal cluster and everything you need from the donor vehicle. As I have already said, there are some repairs that are best let to people that have the expertise. I think your Jetco tag indicates your transmission was rebuilt along the line, btw.
