I just started working on my sons 1990 MM 2.4L. I took the top cover off. Belt is not broken. Looks like a new belt. Truck was running fine, but using a qt of oil every 250 miles, plenty of power. While driving along at about 40 mph, engine kinda bucked or stuttered for a second, before losing all engine power. All dash warning lights came on after engine stopped. Engine now cranks over but no start. I removed the top cover to see a new looking t-belt. I have not yet gotten the crank pulley off so I can remove the bottom cover to check timing marks. Or, should I look else where for the reason the truck will turn over but not start? I was thinking it may have jumped timing. Prior to this, I thought the timing may have been a little to far advanced. It cranked as if the timing was a little to high. But ran really well in spite of the high oil consumption.
