Hey guys, I am fairly new around here & I have a few questions about the semi wheel conversions. I have been here long enough to know to not ask how to machine the wheels though. Any & all info is appreciated as there are no trucks around here (my area) that I have seen with semi rims that I can get ideas or information from. Here goes:

• Can any aluminum semi wheel be machined to fit? I have seen several styles that I like.
• Do all of the semi wheels have the same bolt pattern?
• Do you use semi rims inside & out on the rear?
• If not, what do you use inside?
• Can I still haul a load with the machined rims? (24 foot car hauler)
• Has anyone had any issues using semi wheels and adapters in real life driving? Breakage, bending etc?
• What adapters do I need? Are they the same front/rear? Cost?
• Is there anyone that is near me that can machine them? Arthur, Ontario, Canada.
• How much modification is needed to use them on a squarebody? Not looking to lay frame with my tow rig, just get things a little closer to earth.
• Any modification/machining needed on the brakes/axles etc?
• What are the townasties that I keep seeing talked about?

I know some of these may sound like dumb questions but I have never done this before so any help is appreciated. I have seen a lot of people say call lock one, my only issue is that he is in Texas (I think?) and I am in Canada so shipping & border fees will kill me, hoping to find someone a little closer to home or at least not too far over the border. Gas is frigging expensive now. Thanks guys.

For starters if you know a good machine shop there really isnt alot in machining of the bead seat. I have had a couple sets done for people and the 24s on my dually now.

Um. There has been some troubles with a shop out of Texas with adapters. Baggeddogs on here had the trouble. there are a few reputable places to get adapters from. Diesel wheels, and Dima are a couple. common price is around 800

I have heard of guys pulling 3 car haulers with 295 35s and no troubles.

Inside and out on the back are the same just need drives for the front or you could use the same all the way around

All wheels are the basic 8.25 but there are trailor wheels that are 7.25 known as the tow nastys.

As for shops around you. If you have alot of trucking around you ask them.
As for me i have a local truck shop that sells used wheels for 100 a piece. I get them for 75 cuz he knows my dad and I have a local machine shop that shovels em down for me at 25 a piece.
I also have a good friend of mine that has a polisher that will spend a sat polishing wheels for me and get them to like new finish for keeping him away from his wife.

I do them for friends though so please dont contact me on getting some cuz I am lazy.

just saying you can do them alot cheaper than you find them for

What exactly is a driver? I got 4 wheels from a parrts yard. I got 2 fronts and 2 rears. All 22.5 by 8.25. Is that not right?

I can get you wheels and get them milled...used rims, re polished they will look new again for alot cheaper than new.

Not cheaper than Lock, he's the man...but after shipping and shit...maybe.

I usually don't cut into the big dogs in the states with the wheel buying/ milling thing, but since you are about 15mins away from my front door I figured I would chime in.

I have read that you also need to machine the wheel where it mounts to the adapter and that the wheel needs machined in the center where it registers. I am not trying to cheap out, I am willing to spend the money that I need to spend to do this but I only want to have to do this once & get it right the first time. I also want it to be safe so that I can use my truck as a truck. no offense or disrespect to the guys who bodydrop & notch the hell out of their trucks - they look really cool - but as far as use as a truck they are kinda limited to what you can haul imo. I do have a lowered truck as well (static drop & I can't haul anything) but the dually I am building is to be used to haul a trailer most of the time. I am just trying to sort out the facts from the bullshit because I have read many posts (I used the search function so no forum police suggest this please) and there seems to be several different answers to each of the questions that I have.

On a side note my wife wishes I had never found this site, this truck build went from a mostly stock rebuild to something else for me to spend money on and she blames you guys. Oh well, she should be used to my projects by now.

And a lot of guys do use their bagged trucks to haul. It is all in how you do it. As far as what needs to be machined for the semi wheels to work I'm not sure. I think that is part of the mystery. I know lockone went through a lot of wheels to get it figured out. Sounds like some of these other guys are doing it on there own, I don't know how exactly they are doing it. I would love to know cause I got some hookups. Maybe when I get further along I will try and figure it out on my own.

I still use ine to haul. I am tearing it down in a few months and doing a new back half on it so that I can pull my 28' travel trailor, and my boat when the ole lady lets me get one.

you can machine that face of the wheel where it mounts to the adpt. just to get the wheels alittle closer togerher and so they dont stick out so far in the rear. but you dont have to do that if your not going to be bagged. the front wheels you dont have to do anything to as far as the face of the wheels.. you dont have to mess with the center bore the adpt are made to fit with a factory center bore. the only machineing that is necessary is the .5 on the bead to get the 22 inch tire to mount properly.
