Just found this in this months Street Truck magazine on page 38. It is a raised replacement front cross member for 73-87 full size chevys it will allow you to lay frame on a 29.5" tire without z notching your frame. It also will convert the front end to rack and pinion steering which I thought was sweet, you can use factory control arms or custom tubular arms. It is built by Thorbecke brothers and suppose to be on Suicide Doors site but I cant find it. My questions is will it work for 1 tons? Anyone know anything about this cross member?

There was one built by another guy, can't remember his name. whatyaknow(close I think) got one. It's pretty expensive, sweet piece, but he also had to do some modifying to make it work with the one ton stuff.

More info on the x-member here:

Havn't seen anything about one tons yet... the cross member it self should work fine, but the control arms are what I'm worried about.

The Thorbecke kit looks to be Mustang II based, similar to what Fatman Fabrication and Chassis Engineering have been making for a while. Works okay on half-tons but doesn't look stout enough for a 1-ton. The Mustang rack isn't the hot setup for really heavy cars / trucks.

Porterbuilt (Porterbilt?) have a crossmember and control arms for C-10's that, from what they told me on the phone, they can modify for duallies.

saw the protype of the sd one at carslisle this summer from what they told me then that they didn't know if the one ton cross member is different and if kit would work or not. i myself dont know if the cross members are different or not.
