New here, lowering a 1 ton dually...

Howdy I'm new to dually world. I just picked up a 1989 1 ton ext cab dually. It has 2" drop spindles up front and lowering shackle on the rear. I really want to get it down a little more. It will be a daily driver and a tow vehicle for my Cherokee truggy. It's a big block/auto if that helps. It also had bags before the previous owner took them off. Stock wheel and tires. It sits way too high!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep. Will a shackle flip hinder towing???? That's what I bough the truck for but damn it I want it lower!!!!!!!!!!!!

It would be an axle flip, it wont hinder towing, except for maybe clearance btw the axle and frame. It moves the axle from under your leaf springs to above it. If you measure from the middle of your axle to the bottom of you leaf spring that is how much it lowers your truck. But it keeps you stock leaves therefore stock towing capacity.

LOL Randy, Small world. I wrote the Primer Nationals article for you. Good to have you here. Best thing would be dropped spindles and a flip kit for the rear. Make your own notch plenty deep so you can keep your travel. Helper bags will help out. Welcome!

Ok so flipping it is. Who makes the best/cheapest kit. I also have no problem fabbing something to save some bucks. I've got a chopped '39 Chevy in the garage along with my Cherokee truggy cutting is fun!

You could just by new axle pads but I don't think anyone makes them for the 4" axle tube. The you would just weld them on. But a flip kit and front drop springs are pretty cheap. Sport truck direct has the rear flip

You may have to pull your lowering shackles off and put on stock because with the flip it may be too much of a drop in the rear.

Here is my rear shackle. I can go one more hole but I doubt that would get me much more drop.


Also is this a stock upper control arm? And does the mount look like it was setup for airbags? Just wondering. And thanks for everyones help.
