hello im new to this type of moddin a truck (usually lifting them) i own a 77 crew cab and im needin to put a rear end out of a 83 in it. I was wondering if i could take out some of the leafs to get a drop out of it. i saw someone cut the front coil and that is the plan for the front but i want the back down about the same. im going ot put a helper bag on it if i was to tow with it but i dont have any need right now to tow anything.thanx fer the help. ill put picks up asap.

Removing the leafs is okay. Cutting the front coils, not so much. It's been done a lot and will continue to be done for years to come, I'm just not sure it's all that safe. And I think it kills your ride. Front drop coils are not that expensive, less than $100 I think.

You really shouldn't take too many leafs out or you'll end up with a super soft ride and a tendency to bounce that your shocks can't cure, plus if you put ANYTHING in the bed you'll be hitting the bump stops.

Pulling leafs doesn't give you much drop. You'll get more out of hangers and shackles, or just go ahead and do the flip kit because if you don't drop it much, you'll just want more later...

Don't forget the notch.

I have been told that doing a flip on the 91 and older crew cabs is not advised because the axle tubs are so large. A flip will drop the rear about 9", require cutting the bed and bridging the frame.

Now this is what I was told so if it is wrong please let me know.

Whatever it takes to get it on the ground, I don't see the problem here.

Seriously though, I haven't flipped a square so Idunno. I'll leave that for someone else to respond to.

Check out Campy's truck in this thread. He has a flip and shackle/hangers. He does have a notch but just a bolt in one and
