Does anyone know why they have a wide track and non wide track 3500 rear axle?

Just to piss me off.... It is a gt4 option code which mine has. For a body drop I had to widen my rear fenders to get any wheels to clear. I still have never figured out where it is wider as I have a art bolt on 4 link, if it had the narrow rear end I don't think the kit would fit, as the bags would rub on the tires and the bars would be very close. The only thing I can think of is the frame is different width as well????? If it is just the axle it can't be much of a difference??? I have never gotten around to measuring up my axle and frame to a non wide track truck to figure it out.

The trucks with the widetrack option have a rearend that measures 67" from plate to plate. It is normally just on the 2000 year truck because they have the 01-up axles & tubes in them.

what is the width of a non widetrack axle?

Normal width from 97-up is 64.5" but I have seen them up to 66" and 67" like the wide track.

Actually GT4 means 3.73:1 axle ratio. Sounds like you got it mixed up with GTY, which is wide track axle.
