Finally had the time to go to my favorite local junkyard yesterday and found an axle for my truck. Since I bought my wheels from Trevor, I have been debating whether to narrow the axle, or widen the fenders, and since I have found an axle I dont even need to narrow, decision made.

I found it sitting in the corner of the yard, all lonely and rusted, with grass growing up around her .... I just had to take her home.

Anyways, since I couldnt find a C&C rear, I just got a SRW FF 14bolt. I figured since I am currently planning on running the 24's on the outer wheel, it might just work. If not, then I throw my dually hubs on it and voila, it becomes a C&C axle.

I have a feeling that once I get my wheels on with those big ole holes in them and take a look at that steel teenager on the inside, I just might have to call Trevor again ....

Believe me you will LOL. Just a quick word to the wise, If you do decide to swap your hubs to build your own C&C, dont for get about the brakes. The flange on the axle tube is in a different spot than the C&C so either set of OE breaks you have wont work. If you decide to run discs the bolt on caliper brackets are different for C&C or SRW with DRW hubs. Something I had to find out the hard way....

Yeah, I plan on doing a disc brake conversion using weld on caliper mounts. I dont think I am going to use the Eldorado calipers, cause if the frame's on the ground, the truck aint gonna roll anywhere!!

Thanks for the heads up, anyway!

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I have a question.

Since I had to take my bed off to work on a fuel delivery issue, I took some time to take a look at the suspension, brakes, etc and talk myself out of going ahead and building the rear suspension and bagging it ... I just dont have all the parts yet. But what I did notice is the difference in the backing plates on the DRW axle versus the SRW.

I have already put the bed back on for now, but the backing plates for the DRW axle have a definite offset to them versus the SRW backing plates being almost flat. Has anyone ever tried to use the DRW backing plates with the SRW brake setup? With some quick measurements, it looks like it might work. I know the brakes on the DRW are different than the SRW, but due to the different offset of the hubs and the different size brakes, it looks suspiciously like the SRW brakes/drums would work with the DRW backing plates and hubs ...

Like I said earlier, I can do the disc conversion and weld on the brackets if necessary but it looks as if I might be able to turn a SRW axle into a C&C by using the dually hubs and backing plates along with the SRW brakes and drums. Has anyone done this or have the measurements to know if this would work?
