Lowered Shocks?

I had this in the General Discussion forum but didn't get any answers so I figured I needed to post it here. I'm getting ready to lower the Dually. I'm going with the usual 3 & 4 for the Ford. My question is what are going to be the best shocks for my situation? I use this truck to tow my Car trailer & for trips on the interstate. I'm also going to put overload air bags on the rear. What type is going to give me the best ride?

With only 4" of drop you could probably run stock shocks. KYB GR2's are my favorite. With a 7" or 8" drop you would need lowered shocks or shock extenders. Good luck with it!

nistech414, Thanks for the advise. What size wheels & tires are you running in that picture?

Those are 16" Alcoas with 245/75/16's front and rear. I had to put 225/75/16's on the front after I took this picture because the 245's rubbed. But I still have 245's in the back, I like how they fill the wheel well.

nistect414, how are the rears doing under load? Are you having any rubbing problems back there? I have a set of those but I was told they wouldn't work on the back. Do you have any better pictures so that I can see the rear as well?

I have never had any rubbing issues in the back, even when loaded. I will post a couple pics so you can get a better idea of how they fit. I would think with a 4" drop and stock wheels you wouldnt have any problem.

Thanks nistech414. Post some pictures I want to see what they look like. I have those tires on my company van & can get them for free. I was told by a shop they wouldn't work so I never tried them. We are only allowed to run them until there a little past half tread so they'll be in great shape if they'll fit!
I have 235/85r16 on it now. It came with 215/85r16 from the factory.

Also keep in mind what length shocks you use will depend on how you drop, not just how much. For example say you do a 3" spindle drop on a squarebody Chevy, you still run stock shocks, nothing changed except position of the stub axle on the spindle.

Dunno about Fords at all but if you post more details someone here knows Fords will probably help.

Heres some crappy cell phone pics, but you should get some idea of how they fit. I know a 245 is a bit big for a lowered 2wd truck but I think they fit well.

nistaech414, Looks Good! I like that low profile fat look. I have 235/85r16's now but I don't like that look of the high profile tire. I was thinking about going with the 225/75r16 tires but I don't like the way they look. They actually look like tricyle tires to me. This is the look I wanted. Thanks for the pictures they look great!
