Tagging along, want to do this with my '97.
Looks like the rear is the same, shackles, mounts, etc.
I haven't found anyone with keys to lower the front. It looks like to me that if the holes in the torsion bar crossmember were elongated lower, it would let the front down, kinda like the opposite of a lift key.
I had a guy tell me to be careful with how low to go, the CV axles will come out of the front diff if you bottom out with 'em lowered.

I considered this on my 72 build (Pic's in Sig)
but couldn't figure out a way to do it. I think
it would be cool but do not think you can bag
it all the way down to lay frame. Subscribed

I'd like to find a way to change the front hydraulically (seems the only feasable way with the torsion bar setup) and run conventional bags on the rear. I don't want to lay frame, not more than a 5" front / 7" rear drop, but it would be cool to be able to throw a 5/7 lift at it as well with the flip of a couple of switches.
Mine isn't any kind of offroad rig, I just want front control in slick conditions. I've had a 2wd that was a real biotch to steer in slick stuff, nothing like any other truck I've had. Plus I got a smokin' deal on this CC dually 4x4.

I bought mine without a bed, so I have the rearend out now for a freshen-up. I'm dropping the bottom 1" slab of a spring along with the overload, I'll run an assist bag if I ever need that much capacity, not likely at this point. I'm knocking out the rivets on the front spring hangers and I'll replace 'em with Grade 6 bolts. I figure it's easier now than it will be with a bed on, just in case I need the extra couple of inches I'll get from the front hanger. I also have a pair of 2" drop shackles, I'm figuring on about 5" of rear drop. If I could get an honest 4" down in front, I think I'll be happy.
Surely there's a key available for the front so it won't have to be a hack job, I can't imagine what a torsion bar failure could do.
Gotta be someone around who's done this, there's too damned many of these on the road for us to be the first ones looking to drop a 4wd C3500!

You can only get about 2-3" in the front without running into clearance problems with the axles. A normal set of lowering keys will work and you can adjust them accordingly.

^ thanks for the info. Being a man with knowledge of this mod, could you direct me to a retailer who sells lowering keys for C3500's? I haven't been able to locate one.

As bad as I hate to say it, eBay is usually the cheapest place to get them. The keys are all the same on your body style truck. You can even use the keys from the newer body style trucks if you cannot find some for the 95.

Excellent, thanks for the info. I have ordered my 2" drop hangers for the rear, pulled the bottom leaf and I have 2" lowering shackles. This should make for about a 3/5 drop. I'm not after slammed, just wanna make it easier to get into and not so jacked up...that's for my '77 K-5!
