Does anybody know what the difference is in the upper ball joints of a 1/2 ton 88 - 98 Chevy truck & a 88 - 98 1 ton Chevy truck? I know that bolt pattern is different, but is the tapered stud / shaft that goes into the spindle the same? I know the lower ball joints are the same, the 1/2 tons use a stamped steel upper arm while the 1 tons have a solid round bar style upper arm. What I'm trying to do is use a set of narrowed 1/2 ton tubular arms on my dually, if they will bolt up.

Pretty sure you'll find the stud is a different size. Easy enough to find out, go down to the auto parts store and have them pull an upper ball joint for each app and compare them on the spot.

Yeah, I was thinking about taking a 1/2 ton spindle down to the auto parts store & checking it's fitment with a 1 ton upper ball joint. If not I can always modify the arm to accept the 1 ton upper ball joint.

I figure they've got to be different or why would people bother with the work to adapt a 1/2 ton ball joint into the 3/4-1 ton upper arm when they convert to those upper arms. Lot of bagged 1/2 ton guys doing that swap to get rid of the stamped uppers.

Looks like I'm gonna have to try to adapt the 1 ton ball joints to the set of narrowed tubular arms, or if I have to I can make another set of upper arms from scratch. The stock uppers would be to wide for me. I'm trying to tuck them in some for better clearance when laid out, it's gonna be on stock size tires with Rockstars & a body drop.
