I'm pretty sure I know the answers to these questions, but I just need a confirmation from someone.
1: Is the main engine crossmember the same across the board on the 2wd trucks? I think so, but that is why I am asking.
2: Are C30 control arms the same between the single rear wheel and the dually? As far as I can remember, the differences are the spindles and ball joints I think.
I want to start collecting parts for dually build, and found a sectioned crossmember on Craigslist for $200, but its from a C10, wanna make sure I'm right on that.
Next, duallys are kinda scarce in the junkyards I frequent, but there are a fair amount of srw C-30's I can pillage control arms. Since I'm gonna be starting from scratch as I have zero cache of dually or crew cab parts, It'd be nice to not have to hunt for drw specific control arms, that could get time consuming.
Now for the advice question: What diff should I try and hunt down? This truck is not gonna work much, but will be able to tow if need be. I'm planning on a bag job and maybe some 19.5 wheels, mostly just a good lookin crusier. I've been seeing a bunch of Dana 70 rears on craigslist for pretty good pricing, so I've been leaning that direction, but I plan on changing the gear set from the 4.56 I've been seeing to something a bit more managable for a TH400 or 700r4, in the 3.42-3.73 range.
Any advice on the rear end would be greatly appreciated, and as always, an answer to my above questions. This is gonna be my first scratch dually build, my 92 was a running driving truck when I got it, and it just went from there.
