rear spring blocks.

has anyone ever just taken out the factory blocks on the rear springs and sit the spring directly onto the axle on a mid 90's dually? if so, how did it ride? i dont really want to lower my dually, but would like to get it to sit level. from the looks of it, i may be able to achieve what im after if it wont hurt anything by doing this. thanx.
