Thanks. I don't think it'll fit under a standard cowl hood and I don't want to do one of those 5-6" ones, so I think I'm just going to cut the hood around the valve cover. I've got a nice polished one that I'm putting on after the install is all done.
Anyway, the standard cast iron 4-71 weighs in at just over a ton. I found an aluminum block and built it up from there using mostly aluminum parts. I'm guessing it weighs only 100-200 more than a Cummins 6BT or about twice the weight of the 454 that I pulled out.
