So I have decided to just build another Dually conversion.. I already know what to do and what not to do, What all parts are needed for the swap, and how much work it is. (really not to much work) Could do the swap in a week , but wanting to do a couple of other things makes it more of a long term project.

Plans:
A GMC grille like whats on but w/ Billet insert recessed a bit.
Same cab and tailgate lights I used the first time
Dually fenders
As low as possible on static drop
Maybe a body drop to level rockers with the frame?
19" Aluminum wheels (all 6) so I can run 4 Nitto's out back .
Built trans
Blower on the built Motor

Got a few other little things i am gonna do. This truck will truly be sick. A big improvement over the first one..

What I am starting with..

I got another 1988 Chevy swb truck.. Needs lots of love.. Has a refreshed 305. Maybe some gears? Good cheap Project truck.

Hey man!
Loved your first build, was sad when I got to the end and found out you sold it.
So its been almost a year since your original post on this project...what's up!?
Any progress on this one?
If its still happening, could you detail the front suspension/hubs swap more? I have a plan in place to do a similiar build, but I'm a little lost on that part.
As I said, loved the first build and I'm really looking forward to following this one.

He's been away for a bit, last he and I talked he was doing some serious teardown on the truck to clean it up before progressing with the build.

I can probably answer your questions on the suspension though (he built the previous truck pretty much completely at my old shop, I helped a little bit, but mostly just provided parts) it's pretty simple, on 2WD 1500-2500-3500 the lower control arms are all the same stamped items, the forged style uppers are the same in 8 lug 2500 and on 3500 SRW and DRW, and they fit right into the frame pockets on the lighter trucks, too. So it's a bolt-in deal as far as the UCA's. Then you use the 1 ton caliper and rotor... ta-da

Of course the rear axle bolts right up to the springs too, same spacing on them 1500-2500-3500. U-joint is different but you can do a conversion joint (also known as a 50/50) to make that work, or go full custom and have a driveshaft shop graft a different end on your existing driveshaft, that's ultimately better than a 50/50 joint but really either way is fine.

Hi Richard.
Thanks for the update!
Tell you buddy to quit his job and work full time on the truck for all of us
And thank you for the reply to the front end question, that was pretty much exactly what I was wondering, with just one more question; do the 1500 coils work in the new setup or should I grab those as well? I'm planning on drop springs but i'm thinking for mock-ups during the build.

And tell your buddy that I've been planning this same thing since I bought my truck 4 years ago, I just wasn't sure how the end product would look, so I've been dragging my feet. After seeing his first truck, I'm moving ahead full steam!
And here's a plan...if every member on here sent him $1 a week, he could definitively quit his job and focus full time on the truck. $3333 a week (3334 members, less himself), that's $13,332 a month, $173,316 a year!!!!! Wow...could you imagine the truck build then....

Thanks again for your help,

Hey Richard
Ignore that boneheaded question about the coil springs...of course the they're the same size with different spring rates, otherwise they wouldn't sit in the lca's properly (I was tired this morning). My 1500's springs, and subsiquent 1500 drop springs should be fine as I'm only running a 5.7 and don't need the extra support the 502 would.
I do have another question for you though; the 50/50 ujoint, is that something I can pickup at my local parts store, or do I need to order it in (I'm in a major center, Calgary, ab, 1.5 million people)?
Thanks
Jeff
