I got my lower control arm off the truck and taken to my little brother. He's gunna do all of the plating and finish welding for me. I also took the idler pulley off that has the threads on it for the manual fan to thread onto. He's going to get it on a mill and get the threaded area knocked off of it since I can't use it anymore it's just an eye sore.
Speaking of eye sores I was cutting a bracket yesterday to get the carrier bearing done. Some how there was some kind of tension on the metal I was cutting. About the time it was cut through it popped loose and blow my grinding wheel into dust. Even though I was wearing safety glasses I still got my right eye full of metal and grinding wheel. So I ended up in the hospital most of the night last night getting my eye pryed open and getting a cotton swab rubbed all over my eye ball and the under side of my eye lid. I can't even hardly open my eye today. I can open my eyes for more than a few minutes at a time. So it's looking like the truck is going to not get anything done on it for a few days.

Well I thought everything was out of my eye until I woke up this morning and it was swelled shut. So I had to go see an eye specialist and have surgery on my eye this morning. He found another piece of steelin my cornea. He got the steel but couldn't get the rust cleaned out. So now I'm stuck in my house for 2 days wearing an eye patch I'm not allowed to take off until I go back for another procedure thursday. I was even wearing safety glasses and this still happened. If I ever see somebody running a grinder without glasses on or even better a face shield I'm gunna slap the shit out of them. This isn't fun at all.

i had a couple of accidents like that one with a bigger type of cuttingwheel to cut pieces of c section , i had a disk on an big profesional airpowered grinder that blew apart when i goosed it a few times in free air had a grinder allmost hit me in the face when the piece of metal i was grinding decided to close up the gap lost a piece of my flesh and skin right next to the fingernail when my finger got caught between the guard and the wheel when i set the grinder away after shutting it down . lets just say i have a healty respect for those monsters...... i keep them away from me when grinding hold them realy whell with both hands try to keep the screw on handle on it when i can and i leave the sprayguard on them at all times
i even unplug it before changing the wheel

I had to under go another eye surgery this morning so I'm still down to only having my left eye. Last night I got bored and went out to kick the tires on the dually.

I was told when I bought it that the cummins had a huge list of aftermarket parts. As I got deeper into I found that about 50% of what they claimed to have done to this engine was actually done. So I took the timing cover off last night to make sure the dowel pin was either tabbed down or removed. I really don't want to be the guy that has a $3 dowel pin destroy my $5k diesel engine. I got it apart to find no one had ever done anything with the dowel pin. I also found that it has already vibrated about an 1/8" out toward all of the gears. Really glad I decided to check this out or it would have fallen out into the motor within the next few thousand miles.

if its simpel to check , check it ,
if you want it done right do it youreself
everything that can go wrong will go wrong at one time
all that sortah stuff, we should have a couple of plates hanging from the wall like that

not so good on the eye i hope it will get better soon i had acid in my eye once and had to wear a patch for a couple of weeks not seeing dept because one eye is covered is not funny not knowin if you can see again after they remove the patch is verry disturbing i think i rather o deaf than blind , luckily it turned out ok , that carbon is bad stuff to get in youre eyes , they sometimes have to use a miniature icescoop to get the debree out of there when its in deep , metal is usually eazier they use a huge electromagnet for that and pull it out from a milimeter distance

Today I finally got my eye patch taken off and although my vision is still super blurry I had to get something done. I decided to tackle to hydro boost return hose issue finally. After quite a bit of thought I decided to just run the remote reservoir tank on the cummins. It the cheapest way to go and I think it'll make components last longer. My thought being that there is more fluid in the system so it should run cooler and make everything last a little longer. Also the fluid should last longer before needing changed.

So I started by pulling the front cover back off of the engine. The dowel pin still needs tabbed down so I figure I might as well do it while the front cover is removed now instead of later. I just pulled the entire vaccuum pump assembly out with the steering pump still attached just because it was the easiest bolts to get to. I highly doubt gear alignment really matters on the pump but I marked it to put it back in just in case. You can see the dowel pin with a bolt right next to it at about the eight o clock from the injector pump gear. Very top right gear for those that are unfamiliar with is.

After that I pulled it al out and switched the canisters. Sorry no pix on that one. My hands were way to oily to be taking pictures. After I got everything bolted up I had thought it would be a straight swap but I was wrong. Nothing on this truck can be easy. Both return line pipes were sitting right inside the frame rail. I guess because the engine is sitting so low.

I pulled it back out and bent the upper pipe thinking I could make the bottom one work like it was. I bent the top one to just barely clear the top of the frame rail.

So I bolted it back up and was pretty happy with it. The bottom line was still inside the frame rail but it was short enough I could run the return line inside the frame rail and make it work. Than I slid my engine mount plate back in and found the lower pipe ran right into it.

After scratching my head for a while I bent the lower return line down and forward enough so I can route my return line in through between the frame rail and the engine mount. I didn't get any pictures of the end result because it started raining on me and I was scrambling to get all my tools into a dry place.

Sorry if my spelling is a little jacked up. I'm posting from my phone and my vision isn't great right now lol.
