Just getting back to the mini-truckin' scene. Got out of it (the first time) in 1990 and started a family. My 14 year old son and I just bought a 1992 Mazda B2200 (standard cab) as a project truck that we'll be taking the next year and a half or so to build. We're stoked!

Plans:
Replace seats, steering wheel, custom console, new carpet, five-panel mirror (old school), etc.
As much stereo as we can pack in it (license plate: BIG BANG)
Paint: Candy Red, Chrome Yellow, and Black
Convertible top
4" rear drop and level the front (bags are too expensive although I'd love to do it...)
205/40-18 wheels - six-point stars in hyper black with red stripe (or chrome - undecided)
shaved door handles
door hinge relocation (to where, we don't know yet)
power windows, power locks
smooth the tail gate and install hard bed cover (hinged on the passenger side)
new engine - staying stock but we'll dress it up a bit
side mirrors from Honda CBR600

And whatever else we can come up with. We have time and with that we'll change our friggin' minds a hundred times... but we'll try our best to keep ya updated.

I'm going to have a lot of questions... stand by!

The name of the truck... "Bazinga"

Thanks for your help in advance!

Good luck with the build. If you do change the door hinge location, go suicide. Its classic and IMO any oter door mod is just plain not good. Picture updates are always good.

JohnnyDigits,

I'm hearing you, bro! That's what I am leaning toward. Just got to figure out how that will work with the convertible top - or if it's even possible. Those window frames are a bit tricky.

The truck build-up just went Facebook!

Check out 'Bazinga' at:

Since I am a graphic designer/photographer, I'll be all over this build-up with a camera.

You can definitly go suicide doors with a convertable top and if you decide to go that way i have 2 sets of hinges up for grabs

Don't want to thread jack but what kind of hinges you have and how much?
OP: where in the world are you going to get a convertible kit these days or you going to do something custom? I had one back in the day but I might as well just made it a roadster because of the poor fit and leaks.

I'd suggest fabricating the convertible top from the factory metal top. Why anyone would want a glass top blows my mind. Our build a frame and take it to a convertible top specialist and have them vinyl it (personally I think that would be tits). So long as you don't dinar the hinge install, then the windows should be no problem at all. You would do just like you would with any normal convertible top, which is to say you would just roll them down slightly as you are puting the top up then roll them up the rest of the way once it is latched in to place.

Sounds like a cool project.

cool build so far sounds like you got a decent plan set down too.
