Just bought my first Mazda. Got an 86' B2200 as is for $1000 CDN. Hmmm, where to start. This truck needs quite a bit of work. Body has quite a few dents and chipped paint spots, as well as some rust along the bottom of the panels where its wraps under the truck along the sides. I am going to attempt to bondo the bits and pieces myself and then sand everything and primer it for the paint shop. For this I will be buying a canvas garage from Canadian Tire or something with a zipper front door. The rims are 18s I think, but the last kid who owned the truck left it sitting for a year and the chrome is corroding. For this I think I am going to sand blast them and have them powder coated or something in black. I would like to go with the red that is already on the cab for body color. I will bring the same red in for highlights on a custom black dash (and by custom I mean rip it out and sand and paint it myself) which I will be learning to do on my own. (By the way folks any pointers on what Im listing would be appreciated!).

The interior has some decent seats, I will keep those, they are comfy and clean. THe carpet has to go, its an original brown almost shag like disaster. I will be looking for a nice black or grey to replace it with. I would like to replace the lower center part of the dash where the cd player would go with a custom carpet box that will extend through between the seats nearly to the back . From there I will build a custom sub box in the extended cab for a system. The door panels are done custom by the previous owner but it looks horrible so I will be searching for new panels to redo myself with something fresh. The last guy took a bunch of dash and door panel piece and did a crappy white paint job. I would also like to replace the speedometer with something newer and nicer looking, maybe a white one.

The box of the truck has been chopped between the wheel wells and left that way, the original owner had chopped it open to drop the truck with bags. The bags are tired and need replacing soon, the front left has a slow leak. As I have said before I may go back to springs, who knows. Only time will tell on that one.

Other than that I will be searching for various parts and pieces for now. I will keep everyone posted with pics and such.

Any advice would be great. Cheapest route possible. I dont have a lot of money and I have a newborn, so this will be a low project.

I will post some new pics later.

Welcome to the site, let's see some pics! For technical questions I would post a new thread for each question, that way more people are likely to see it that can help.

Nice looking ride. Really like the rims, should look great powdercoated. Have to start a Build Thread when you get going on the project. And like Baha stated... if you have questions I'm sure someone on here will be able to get you the right answer.

going to a scrapyard tomorrow that has 3 b series trucks in the lot right now and rip some parts off for my interior. my back window needs a latch its broken and doesnt snap shut at the moment. not building my system into the back until thats finished.

Got some red carpet on order for the interior. I am going to build a custom center column to go between the seats (arm rest) and replace the lower part of the dash in one piece, i will throw some brackets in to mount my cd deck and air bag switches. The previous owner made the switch box removeable and added a plug to the wheel well in the box to play with the air suspension from the outside, I am going to have it hard mounted in the cab non removable. Not interested in it. I am going to rip the dash out as well and replace the speedometer with a white one from ebay and repaint the dash all black, no white or red highlights....well, possibly the red, but no white. The plan is to match the red on the cabs exterior and repaint the truck red eventually.

some small changes made. photos can be found here:

I ripped the brown carpet out and replaced it with some grey I found in a 90 B2200. Looks much better. Gotta clean it up a bit more. Carb is replaced and the truck idles better. Newer carb with more hoses that had nowhere to go so we lugged them. As you can see I still need to splice the electric choke into a 12V ignition wire. Ive begun some body work. Kind of shabby, its my first time. Took the front driver fender off and found a nice big hole into the cab which explains why the carpet underlay was wet...on both sides, which makes me want to open up the other side when the work is done to it. Im replacing the drivers side fender due to way too much rust.

Last couple things to make it drivable is throw in a compressor and replace the calipers that are siezed up from sitting too long. Other parts are on the way.
