1987 mazda b2600 4x4 in socal intro b4 build thread

picked up a 87 mazda with 142xxx the other day for 700! the guy was asking 1200, i only had 1000 and i honestly just offered 700 because i thought he wouldnt take it but he said yes so i said F**K IT. made a thread over at rangerstation.com cuz its a 4x4 forum but they are non helpful to say the least. finally found a mazda truck site so here i am.

it has no ignition just a switch and killswitch, no radio, no ac, heat kinda works, speedometer works after 15mph, temp gauge doesnt work, idles rough. the PO said the axle fell off a few months back due to old bushings and ball joints but it was repaired by a family mechanic. there is a few missing parts under the hood but theres enough to keep her running PO also said the transmission was replaced in 09 and the clutch was replaced about 3 months ago. i had my mechanic pal come with me to check it out and he gave me the green light if i wanted it for the right price. i figured it needed a bit more work than i wanted and thats what prompted the lowball 700$ offer but the guy basically said yes on the spot......made me wish i offered 500$. i was immedietly ready to call the tow truck to come get it but my mechanic insisted it would make the 45mile trip no problem so i once again said F**K IT.
i signed the papers gave him the cash and of course the truck doesnt start!!!!!!! my heart started sinking but i wasnt too worried as the ink wasnt dry and i most definetly wouldnt have let that man take my money. after a few tries she fired right up and away we went. i had my friend drive the truck and i drove my other car behind him. we were going at least 75 at one point so it can get up there in speed when it needs to.

got it home and did a compression test and all four cyl are good. thats a big acomplishment for me already as i assumed the worst. it seems as though the drive trane is in good shape its just all the smaller componets like sensors, hoses, leaks, valves, old frayed wires also an exhaust leak. the reed valve is completely rusted to crap and has clearly been like that for quite some time(where do i get a new one?). the truck rattles like none other too. also a possible bad starter but we will get to that in a second.

it started haveing more problems starting. at first i thought it must be shotty electrical to taht switch but then it sounded like the starter was going bad. anyway changed the oil and filter yesterday and was driving it home when i believe the egr valve died. it just started stumbling on acceleration and then it would be fine if i maintained a steady throttle but if i tried to accelerate it would stumble. so i basically limped home and thats where she sits for now.

i ordered a temp sensor last night and i was going to get a thermostat along with alot of coolant to flush the system since its basically 100% water. unfortunetly when i went to start up the truck just to check something today the charge battery symbol came on and basically the battery is dead. so i gotta get a new battery so i can actually start her which wont be for at least another week..........lame

until then ill take the battery out of my other car when i need to work on it but i was using as a daily driver so ill have to take the bus to work now as my gf uses the other car for work.

hoping to spend about 500$ when i get my tax return tho....new carb,egr,sensors,plugs,alignment,fluids........really looking forward to seeing how much better she runs after that.
