Hi All!
Just signed on hoping for help and encouragement.
Seems the locals 'round here think this truck is worthless and I should dump it.
NOT! She's always gotten me home before collapsing.
Mom (me) just loves her lil' red farm truck...

My teenage son will be visiting here frequently.
He's become mom's mechanic and I promised this truck to him when he gets his license. ( He will have to pry those keys from my hand...Oh how I love my little red truck...) What I'm secretly hoping is I'll still get to keep MY truck and he can find another Mazda to alter. But don't tell him that...right now he's free labor...except for his feed bill.

I want to restore my '87 B2000 cab+ 5spd to original....he'll probably change it later on

Hope you all will be kind to my boy and help him learn to fix mom's truck. The truck is being towed home today...and we are starting to doctor her up.

Welcome. Post up any questions you have.

They are quite the handy little farm truck

Hard to tell through the windshield, is Samson an Aussie or an Aussie mix?

Reminds me of my two little guys going for a ride

Samson is Maremma-X
And you ask: what's that?
A Maremma is an LGD
And you ask: what's that?
A Livestock Guardian Dog
And you ask: What's that?
Basically..in a nutshell..a coyote killer.

Where does my son post the Qs about what he's fixing?
Today he removed the battery cables I am just LOVING this...he's covered in grease..LOL--looks like stealth facepaint)

I have to order new cables in town today...and then we need to find out if the starter needs replacing. I bought a new battery. I was told a negative cable is available but a positive cable has to have a "kit" to put a new end on it.

Any advice for the "mechanic" of the house?

What part of Texas you in? I'm from Houston and could give you a hand if you are in my area. Welcome to the site I'm sure you/him can find answers to any questions you will have. There is a good group of people on here always willing to lend a hand.

Ricky:
What caused the battery terminal to melt?

Mom:
Where should we start a thread for this project/help?
PS- I LOVE 'Mater...he's my favorite. (your member photo)

I would say it melted from having it wired backwards or it grounding out on the metal somewhere in the area.

What is that? Grounding out on metal? Like the wires were bare?

That was actually even with my B2200 lowered 3" in the rear. For help with sagging from loads, look into adding something to the rear, such as helper springs, helper bags, or something like Monroe Sensatrac load adjusting shocks (have a coilover spring to increase load capacity) or Monroe Max-Air shocks, (same idea as the load adjusting, but you can dial in the additional help by adding air, instead of the fixed coil spring).

And yep, those are my two "Livestock Guardian Dogs" Indy is the big Border Collie/Lab mix, Copper is the little Aussie, along with our Blue Heeler Tillie, not pictured. They keep an eye on our cattle, and run off any coyotes, bears, etc.

Yes the power wire is going to metal somewhere on the truck, thats if its not hooked up backwards
