Been poking around the site for a bit and figured I'd make it proper and join up. About 6 months ago I bought a "survivor"...if you will...that being an '86 B2000. She's certainly seen better days. She spent most of her life in N. Indiana so the salt took it's toll on the bed. It didn't help that someone hacked off the top rails of a perfectly good OEM bedliner for a topper at some point in her life. Clearly the topper was removed a long time ago and water got between the liner and the bed everytime it rained and just sat there. I was able to repair it though with some sheet metal and a couple layers of Restoleum Bed Coating.

Been doing a lot of work to her over the last few months...tires, shocks, tune-up, timing belt, brakes, new grille, headlights (all the bulbs actually...LOL), fixed bad dash lights, all filters, fluids, radiator hoses, coolant, fuel pump, valve cover gasket, tranny/diff gear oil....the list goes on and on. I've had a great time tinkering with it so far. She just needed some TLC and will live out the rest of her life taking it easy as my weekend truck....or the "Home Depot Express" as my family calls it.

She's not much to look at...but she's a good runner with a solid frame and some life left in her.

A couple of shots of the day I brought her home.....tired and negleted.

More recent shots.

Welcome Billiam!
I like the family car wash! Your truck reminds me of my first B truck.....20 years ago! It was just like yours, a 1986 B2000, except mine was silver. It got me hooked on them.......I have 5 of them right now, and enjoy them all.
Funny story with the first one I bought.......I already had 3 domestic trucks back then and when I told my wife I was buying the 86 B2000, she about had a fit! I had to remind her.......this is my cash I'm spending here!
Anyway, I paid $900.00 for that truck, did all the little maintenance items like you have done, drove it everyday for 5 years working construction and put another 100,000 + miles on it.......then sold it for $1800.00!

I remind my wife (of nearly 31 years now) of that truck whenever she gives me a hard time for buying a vehicle!

Good luck with your little treasure, and enjoy it!

Thanks for the welcome fellas.

Earl...It's been years since I've owned a truck and I've been telling my wife for a long time that I'm going to buy an older JDM truck to tinker with and use for my endless trips to Lowe's and Home Depot. After looking for some time for a Toyota, Mitsu, Nissan or Mazda that toed the balance between my small budget and complete and utter junk, I had just about given up and was going to step way up on my budget and get a slightly later model when my wife found this one on Craig's List. So it was actually her find and she's been completely cool about me wrenching on it many weekends in a row.

I've been messing with cars for nearly 30 years and this truck has been really easy to work on thus far. Still though...I may have the occasional question. In fact, I'm going to post up one in the right section about an old-school bumper guard that I had on my '89 B2200 back in the day. I've yet to find one despite hours of research for the last few weeks.

Same here! I always do all of our car repairs generally, and I love the classic cars, especially Pontiac's.......here is one of my GTO's and I'm currently installing all new Moog front end rubbers.......it still had all of it's original A-frame bushings, tie rod ends, etc.
