Yep, a good thing is to make sure the the piston/seal inside the EGR is closed all the way when sitting, like in your hand. If this is stuck open or partially open, then you WILL have idling issues, has happened to me. Stuck closed EGR will affect emissions, possibly some pinging, but a better situation than stuck open.
I use a little Permatex Aviation on the EGR gasket unless it's a brand-new one, don't want a vacuum leak there, or a vacuum leak elsewhere either, as that will cause bad idle as well.
