Hi all new guy from Iowa. Been browsing here for a time lots of great rides btw. I just finished doing a weber conversion on my 90 2200. My problem is it runs best at 2000rpm but just a bit lean. When I try to lower the rpms it just spudders and dies. I have unplugged the computer, made an egr block off plate, and I have no vacuum leaks. I have plenty of fuel pressure. I tried calling weber and they said it should have 3 lbs of pressure to run best. Is this right?

Thanks for any and all help from this great community.

EDIT: just uploaded pics to my gallery to help out.

Also I have no coolant in it right now. don't know if this helps or not.

when i blew a radiator hose my engine reved real high because there was no resistance from the belt driven water pump. my choke may have came on due to the temp sensor not sensing anything. but it was waaayy higher than a choke idol. mines a stock carb tho. good luck

update: coolant full, no vacuum leaks, no egr leaks(block off plate), no sensors plugged in, computer unplugged, good fuel pressure, timing is fine, choke plugged into back off alternator. Still runs best at 2000rpm still lean and it still dies trying to lower the rpm. Also fuel is coming out of the car's vent not a lot just a dribble every once in a while. Could the float be off? or what else could it be? Me and the mechanic are completely flustered.

I think the weber choke needs an ignition only 12v supply to function right. The alternator choke hook-up is only 7v. That's probably not what's causing your issue though.

I had to tow this back to my driveway and I would love to be driving it instead of my project car. But my GP gets better gas mileage so its not a complete loss, I guess. I would love if anybody has any ideas. I had to send the Weber back because they thought it was the issue. I don't think it was. If you guys or gals can think of what the problem is give a shout.

A few people have had issues with the jets not properly installed, so it may have been the carburetor.

We thought the same so the mechanic took the carb apart to make sure all the gaskets and jets were good. but that all checked out fine. I switched the carb out because the factory carb would rev super high on start up. It only just started doing that after I brought it out of storage. Prob. had junk in the carb, to me it wasn't worth rebuilding. I did research and found out the factory carb is junk. Could the jets really cause it to run best at 2k rpm while running lean. I am a mechanic just not that knowledgeable on carbs. I am doing all the work on my g-body Grand Prix except paint. Love these simple vehicles beats working on these new computer controlled junk, and electric everything.

ok got the carb back from Weber finally .............. and it still runs like shit. Switched mechanics he has worked on this problem before so hopefully he will be able to get it running. He seams to think it might be a vacuum leak from where the other guy put the block off plate for the egr.

I've had the Weber 32/36 DGEV on my '88 B2200 since late 2005 and it runs real well. I can set the idle anywhere from 700 to 1000 rpm with one partial turn of the screwdriver (I run it at 950 rpm in summer, most of the year here in Arizona, because of the AC).

Vacuum leaks can wreak havoc on setting the timing. Did you use sealant on the Weber gaskets (I used Permatex Aviation)? Did you use blue Loctite and torque the bolts on the adapter plates? Did you sand the adapter blocks flat using wet/dry paper and a sheet of glass?

My Weber electric choke IS plugged into the rear of the alternator like most others who have used Weber, fine.
