Well, I fell in love with a local guy's b2000 84 I've seen around town a few times, and I've been looking for one in great shape for.. whew, a few years now. Most have been chopped up or are pretty sad looking. Finally found one, and it's being shipped here as we speak. 55k original miles, 1 owner. Prob overpaid for it, as they usually go cheap, but it's the one I wanted in the condition I wanted, and nothin better popped up over a few years (or I missed em), so at least the hunt is over.

I know the pre' B's aren't quite as popular here as the 86+ ones, but hopefully when I have questions people will be around. Currently have a 81 LUV as my tool truck. Can't kill the thing, runs great, but it's starting to succumb to rust, and look ratty due to a shoddy paintjob.

Besides burnt exhaust valves and blown head gaskets, anything else I should be checking out as soon as it arrives? I'm going to give it a thorough look over when it gets here. Part availability seems decent enough. Plan on leaving it bone stock, except maybe install some webers I have laying around. Anyone have specs on jets/needle sizes offhand? I'm guessing it'll need some spacer adapter dealio, anything else?

Seems like there's 0 parts interchange between later 86+ B2000s, except maybe the head.

I could really use some OE tan floor mats if anyone has some kicking around as well (will prob post a WTB once I get a handle on what's necessary).

Pics forthcoming after I get it early next week.

Welcome to the scene. They may not be as popular but there is still tons of knowledge. And we are pic whores so we'll be patiently awaiting for those...

Thanks, yea, i've been through like 28 pages of searching on the pre's.. it's pretty scattered around.. def not as popular.

Pics definitely forthcoming. Here's a teaser though

First order of business is to remove the painted on business name and the wood rails. Not sure what's going on with the chrome lowers.. dude claims it was OE, but I'm guessing it was dealer addon like the rails... I'm hoping the business name comes off with some oven cleaner, and a few hours of precision work. I'm hopeful it's not going to leave too much of a faded outline due to it being there forever. At least it's in a place where if I do have to touch up, it wont be too noticeable.

Still, original paint and decals look nice. thoughts? Figure some wheels are in my future, but I think i can move over my full moon wheels from the LUV for a different look.

Holler at me if you need any info, 1st thing I would do and I'm not being a debbie downer is start saving your pennies and putting it towards a 2.3 swap. Those stock 2.0s are JUNK
roflwaffle   +1y
Slammed, seen a lot of your posts, had you bookmarked, to pester you with questions when the need arises

I haven't seen any posts on the 2.3 swap, only a bunch of posts saying that a 2.0 from a later one wont fit, neither will the kia. 2.3 from a 2300? or the courier (pinto motor?) which years? fairly bolt on?

I had budgeted for $ to do a swap, but seems like I should be able to get a good couple miles out of the 2.0 yet, given the 50k miles on the clock, but I haven't seen it yet. Hate to bastardize it too much if i can help it. In any case, seemed like a clean enough starting point.

EDIT: think I found it

looked on here, couldn't find any details on it, read through 30 odd pages of your 'take 3' post, seems like a different truck? mentioned a 350 block, so I must have missed a post somewhere

Welcome! You'll need an adapter for the weber, I dont remember needing anything else for mine. I havent had any issues with my 2.0 so far, other that it needs valve seals it runs great! If it decides to crap out on me the 2.3 is where im going haha.

^ Nick is literally the only person I know that hasn't had any major issues out of his 2.0. Just hit me up with any quesitons, I know what its like to try to tackle one of these in the dark with 0 knowledge.

Thanks! Good to see some active guys rockin the older gen. Well, I don't have much else to say til it arrives (next tuesday).

I found a pick n pull yard close by with an 82 I'm going to swing by and take a look at tomorrow. If anyone has any (easy) pulls they need, or any advice on hard to find parts I may want to just pick up, let me know. I'm mostly going to check out the interior, hopefully it has floor mats or a better bench (doubtful), and to see if it's worth going back to. I think I've seen a few guys looking for a dome light, so I'll grab that if it's still there.

Any other things to look for?

I have a Kia 2.0 swap in mine. I even have a video on YouTube of it running and some tech vids as well

Use a rubber wheel to get those decals off. They work great.

" target="_blank

unless they are vinyl stickers, then use a heat gun and peel them off.

Sweet truck, looks clean!
