Hello all! I am new here and to the Mazda truck scene - I was not a fan of import trucks before. I finally convinced myself to get into a 1991 b2200 and I fell in love. I am buying it tomorrow or tuesday most likely.

My question, as a new member to this site and new owner to the Mazda family, is there anything I need to be careful for on these trucks? They seem bullet proof from what I have seen online.

I am 17 years old, Male, and going to SIAST in the fall for Auto Body Tech.

For the most part, they are bullet proof.
After 150,000 miles or so, the piston oil rings tend to show wear, and the engine will begin to burn oil.
Also, they don't like to get hot! Head gaskets usually fail soon after an engine is overheated.

The other things that tend to fail are the Multi-switch(head light, turns, wiper), and the electrical part of the ignition switch. At the age these trucks are, it is becoming more common.

Yep, that's pretty much the list. My '88 never blew a head gasket, and the tail light part of the combination switch went out, and the ignition switch electrical. All in 19.5 years as daily driver, 199K now. All vehicles have their weak areas.

I'll throw in that like every 5 years I've had to replace the clutch master and slave cylinders.

If your in a snowy state check the frame for rust holes.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I live in Canada actually, so I checked for rust holes and she was good. Minor surface rust, and actually for being 23 years old now, she has very minimal rust. The Stock clutch and tranny are running beautifully. I will be rebuilding and fixing the body rust this summer. This weekend I will be tackling a new head gasket an bolts.

Canada - likely will be a fuel-injected B2200, good for you.

What part of Canada?

The most common frame rust is on the inner frame rail behind the driver side of the cab. Seen too many like that. Not sure why.

It was from America originally, safetied here in 1999, and I made sure to check under the driver side. I live in Saskatchewan and its damn cold here. She struggles to start in the cold but the battery posts are corroded to hell, so I am going to start there. Has anyone else had troubles getting Head Studs? I went to Napa and Part Source and both are out of stock completely, and finally found a set at Canadian Tire.

Head studs? You mean the cylinder head bolts? Not sure what parts you mean.

Is your truck carb or EFI?

When you say it struggles, do you mean it cranks over forever or it won't crank?
