Hey everyone. Just stopping in to say hi. Just picked up a 1990 B2200. Currently not running. Hopefully I figure out what it's problem is soon.

Welcome!

Post details here and we'll help out. Post pictures too, we'l all picture whores here.

Start with the head or compression, see if you have chocolate milk in the radiator or oil pan... After that look at fuel and air...

Thanks for the welcome.

I started checking compression, 30, 50, 70, 50 were the results. Radiator was dry, I found a broken hose under the intake. I figure atleast a head gasket, look at the valves, and I might as well throw in some rings while I am there since it isnt that much more work to drop the pan on one of these.

Unfortunately I dont know much of the history besides the guy I bought from was tired of messinig with it. He thought it wasnt getting fuel, but I verified the fuel pump is priming and the carb is getting fuel. It is highly tempting to pull the carb off and throw a weber on there just to get rid of all those dang vacuum lines.

I blew the same hose on my 88, ended up running out of coolant on the highway, didnt notice untill temp gauge was almost in the red. Took out head gasket and warped the head badly, requiring a replacement head and valves. I filled with water after i got it towed home and it would shoot water over a foot out of rad when i cranked it over and all 4 plugs were soaking wet with water lol.

Ends up the head is pretty warped (it looked bad even with my non-precision straight edge I have). I'm just going to pick up a rebuilt head, replace the piston rings, and hopefully call it done with that. The previous owner swore it had never been overheated. yeah, I bet it wasn't......the oil when I took off the valve cover smelled pretty cooked. Luckily it wasn't baked on the engine or head yet to the point where it cant be cleaned up with just an oil change or two.

If you are going that far into it you might as well put in some new rod and main bearings.

I just bought a 1990 for the body. It has a running 2.2 with auto trans. Trans slips out of high gear until it warms up and won't go into overdrive. Engine runs great but started a little rough as I drove it home. Probably bad gas because it runs real well most of the time and then it seemed to pick up something and run rough and sputter.

I am swapping in a Kia/Mazda engine and trans anyway so no biggie.
