Hi all from Dunedin New Zealand. I have a manual 5 \-speed 1986 Mazda B2000 Cab Plus which I am in the process of purchasing the required parts to do a FE3 engine swap. I have managed to find a manual 1996 Kia Sportage that had been in a rear end crash and am buying the engine, ECU, harness, fuse box, headers, dash and gauges (could be missing something there - did lots of research here on BScene and made a list which I can't seem to find tonight). The one thing that is concerning me is wiring up the Kia's harness with the Mazda's one and I was wondering whether anyone would be able to walk me through it or give me an idea of where to start? The actual engine swap won't be happening until next year as I need to find myself a garage to do it all in. I have also got some Cadillac tail lights that I am going to French in and some electric window motors to swap in as well. It is going to be a long term project but I am looking forward to it. I have had the B2000 for a year now (got it from a friend) and haven't done a whole lot to it yet apart from removing the decal/sticker from the sides (which took forever), sanding it down some and wiring up a new stereo in it (nothing overly flash). Thanks to all those that have put up information about the FE3 swap (and those providing other useful information). Cheers, Gavin
Oh and I've put new HID headlights in, swapped my parking lights to indicators and replaced and repainted my front grille.

Never done an FE3, but I have done 2 swaps in 2 different vehicles (B2200 and a Fiero). Both of them had basically the same challenges for wiring. What I did was get a wiring diagram from the service manuals for both the donor engine vehicle and the B2000. I start with the ECU/ECM wiring diagrams, and whatever goes from the ECU to the engine stays the same, all that will need is shortening or lengthening of the wires. The stuff that goes from the ECU to the body, for example, the gauges, power ground, fuel pump, etc... will need to be spliced into the correct wire in the B2000 wiring diagram, after confirming the circuits work the same way. Some things may need to be added, for example a clutch switch for the ECM may be needed, and that will have to be added and wired in according to the donor engine wiring diagram. You also do the same for anything from the B2000 wiring diagrams that attaches to the motor, this is usually just the sensors for the dash, and again, you have to verify the sensors work the same and have the same output range as the B2000 gauge.

Take it one circuit at a time, since you are going from carb to EFI, you will need to add parts and circuits, like an in tank fuel pump and get that wired up with a relay according to the wiring diagram, etc...

Here is a wealth of information on FE3 swaps.

Thanks everyone. The FE3 motor and extras has finally arrived so I am going to start trying to work my way through all of the wiring information I have collected from the internet. The motor was running prior to a rear end crash and I thinking about putting it straight in as it is but would appreciate any advice on what everyone recommends I should change/replace/update prior to putting it in. I would like to put the Wiseco forged pistons, ARP rods, Fidanza cam wheels and other upgrades but probably won't be able to afford them straight away but any suggestions are appreciated. Also, any suggestions on storing an engine for a bit before I put it in? I'll get some pictures up soon of my stockish '86 B2000. Thanks to all contributors to bscene all information is much appreciated. Thanks, Gavin
