I know a deal like this would have saved me a few times in the past. But it could also turn out to cost more. For instance, I bought a 8ft peice of 2in square tubing yesterday with .25 wall thickness. I cost me $40 and they even cut it about a foot long. There is no way shipping that would of been less than $30. It weighs about 50 - 60 pounds. Through experience, I recommend finding a local steel yard and befriending the sales person/yard worker. It seems that they set some prices on the fly... depending on their mood or if they know you or not. I've even gotten smaller peices for free when they recognize me and after about the 5th time buying odd sized stuff, they started telling me to dig through the scrap bin first.
