I'm not sure if its my gauge, sending unit, or wiring. I have the ability to troubleshoot and repair, and with minimal inspection I'm presuming it's the gauge. what I'd like to hear is if anyone has had fuel gauge trouble and found it to be the level indicator itself. Any useful info. would be helpful. THANKS MBS. 500 members...WooHoo!

THE ONLY WAY I KNOW TO TEST THE GUAGE IS TO PULL THE GUAGE CLUSTER, PUT A MULTI METER ON IT ON THE OHM'S SETTING, AND MANUALLY MOVE THE GUAGE FROM E-F, IF THE METER SHOWS DIFFERENT READING ON THE SCALE (RANGE OF RESISTANCE), IT SHOULD BE GOOD, IF IT STAYS THE SAME (NOT READING OR OPEN) IT IS BAD. IF THE GUAGE READS GOOD, THEN YOUR LEVEL INDICATOR IN THE TANK IS PROBABLY BAD.

I hear ya with checking the resistance, I guess the indicator should be the sending unit, but i was refering to the to the gauge as being the indicator. Anyway, ever since I bought it, the gauge has not worked,I had the instrument cluster out a few weeks ago for that reason and found that it did not move smoothly with little resistance (not electrical res.)like It should so I manually moved it back and forth carefully and left it at the fullmark.(I Did this once with an inop. tach and it worked afterward...seems it had a burr. in it) so after leaving it at full and reconnecting it it slowly found itself back at bottom, but it moved back to flat empty at a smooth rate which any gauge will move when accessory voltage is applied... Trying to be as clear as possible. Maybe I'll just change the cluster, but for now it's got a tach and correct milage. thanks

WHEN I PULLED MY OLD TANK (IT HAD BEEN SITTING FOR 4 YEARS) THE
FLOAT LEVEL INDICATOR WAS CORRODED, IF THIS HAPPENS, YOUR FUEL LEVEL GUAGE ON THE DASH WON'T WORK. THERE ALSO IS A PLASTIC PIECE ON THE END OF THE LEVEL INDICATOR, IT MIGHT HAVE FALLEN OFF, OR COULD HAVE BECOME SUPERSATURATED WITH GAS AS PLASTIC IS PORUS, IF THIS HAPPENS, IT WILL BE TOO HEAVY TO FLOAT ON THE GAS, AND WON'T REGISTER AS HAVING FUEL IN THE TANK EITHER.

HOPE YOU FIGURE IT OUT..

First off, Thanks. I throughly drained my tank tonite, I have been $5 dollaring it to death, (know what I mean) and thought I had ran it pretty low (less than a gal.) Well to my surprise it had 5 gallons. no prob I recovered it all. Again, I throughly strained it all and had very little sediment if any noticable.so that is a good thing. Anyway, I now Know there is 2 Gallons of fuel in the tank, and will continue to 2$ it till I decide to drop the tank and replace the sending unit. Thank God it has a drain plug (14mm bolt)

no prob, that is what i like about the bscene u know, post ur prob, and someone usually has had some exp with it and can help!! i know what u mean on gas, i had to trade my '02 dodge quad cab in last spring for a 4x4 yota the dodge was getting 13 mpg at best on the highway, empty, towing, or in town it didn't matter 13 mpg, and was costing me $150 a week to just get back-n-forth to work (i live an hour from work 1 way = 56 mi.) with the yota i'm getting 20-24 mpg and that is with a v6.

Yeah, mileage has become an issue once again. yota's have never been to my liking, but they are ceartainly hard to beat. I had a camry once... could NOT kill that fucker.

yeah i hear ya ima $5 man to. ya mine is all messed up too. at one point my gauge only started reading when it got to the halfway mark, so we got it fixed. but now that ive drug through 2 gas tanks and have my third tank and guage its messed up again. it runs out of gas at different places its really weird. ive been stuck on the side of the road a few times. now i just keep it over a 1/4
