what to do

i want to get my engine rebuilt in my truck. its a 92, 164,000 miles, burns oil, leaks anitfreeze(bad waterpump which isnt much to fix). i took it to an automotive machine shop and they looked at my engine and did a compression test or w/e and i have a 50% leak through my pistons. My dad says i should sell my mazda and take the $2000 and get something more reliable. i tell him that my truck will be fine after the engine gets rebuilt. i wont get much for my mazda b/c im sure most of you know the blue book value on these trucks arent much at all. i dont want to sell my mazda cause i love that truck. all it needs is the engine rebuild and it should be fine, nothing else is wrong with it. i just replaced the clutch and i dont hot rod it. my carb is fine. so..what do you guys think i should do, sell my mazda or get some other truck for $2500.

you ought to be able to get the motor rebuilt stock for @ $1500 w/ new pistons or find a jap motor, they are pretty cheap like @ $1000 w/ only 30,000 mi. on them.

yeah man get the motor re done, if the truck is having motor problems it is very unlikely that you would get 2000 or 2500 for it anyway, unless it had some crazy paint jon or some bad ass air ride

def get that motor redone, or find a used one. im sure you will able to keep it if ur patient and find a descent deal.

ok thanks, thas wuts i was hoping for. i told my mom i posted this to see what you guys would say since you are all mazda owners. my dad keeps tellin me you cant polish a turd but he also hates that i drive a lowered truck. anyway, i told my mom what you guys said and she agreed to it so, i guess i get to keep my mazda after all. i still gotta go look at some truck my dad found. he didnt know what it was he just saw that it was lowered. if its an s-10 im definatly not gettin it. i will never own an s-10. if i ever did tho it would be the box style ones. i get so tired of seeing s-10s anyway, keep the replies coming so i can tell my dad what mazda owners say, maybe itll change his opinion but i doubt it..o well..its not his truck

tell pop's that it is sorta like hot rod's backin the late 60's or 4x4's and cowboy's. he may have liked hot rod's (or what ever), but his dad might not have too...... mine was the same way, then i explained that to him, and he was just happy that i was into something legal!!!
